First District RESA is pleased to announce the Communities of Learning and Achievement (COLA), a First District RESA and Georgia's Leadership Institute for School Improvement (GLISI) collaborative professional learning series. Designed for system leaders, principals, their leadership teams, and key teacher leaders to network and to build leadership capacity, each COLA will provide information about focused topics. The series will allow participants to support system and school improvement efforts.
COLA #1: Addressing the Needs of Students of Poverty February 26 or 27
As schools struggle to find ways to increase the academic achievement of all learners, data reveal that the economically disadvantaged subgroup continues to be at risk of not making annual yearly progress (AYP). This one-day event will showcase a school’s success in improving school and student achievement as well as lead participants to closely examine their own beliefs and practices.
COLA #2: Establishing Collaborative Communities: Professional Learning Communities March 6 or 7
Are you seeking a more collaborative atmosphere in your school? Are you ready to stop teaching in isolation? Follow the history of one school as they invite you on their transformational journey into Professional Learning Communities. Watch as they model a PLC. Participate as they guide you through the processes, procedures, and protocols involved in establishing PLCs in your school. Leave with the tools to say, “Shift will happen in my school.” COLA #3: School Safety with Bill Bond and Barbara J. Paris June 5
(Sponsored by AIG Valic & GLISI) Is your school ready for the unthinkable? Bill Bond, one of the country's preeminent authorities on school violence and related issues, and Barbara J. Paris, Texas Association of Secondary School Principals president and middle school principal, will provide key points on responding to a school crisis and address what works and does not work in bullying prevention. |
