FDRESA K-5 Mathematics Endorsement PDF Print E-mail

What:  FDRESA will offer the Mathematics Endorsement as a satellite of Metro RESA’s PSC-approved program.  The endorsement requires four semester-long courses, for a total of 200 hours, and 20 PLUs.  Upon successful completion of all four courses, the endorsement is awarded by the PSC.  The endorsement provides candidates with the opportunity to increase their mathematics content and pedagogical content knowledge appropriate to K-5 teaching.

Who:  K-5 teachers who teach mathematics as part of their instructional responsibilities and who meet other criteria may apply for admission to this endorsement program.   Applicants must hold clear renewable Georgia teaching certificate in one of the following fields:

  • Early Childhood Education (P-5)
  • Middle Grades Education (4 - 8)
  • Special Education General Curriculum/Early Childhood Education (P-5)
  • Any of the following certificates combined with a core academic content concentration in mathematics:
    • Special Education General Curriculum (P-12)
    • Special Education Adapted Curriculum (P-12)
    • Special Education Behavior Disorders  (P-12)
    • Special Education Learning Disabilities (P-12)
    • Special Education Deaf Education (P-12)
    • Special Education Physical and Health Disabilities (P-12)
    • Special Education visual Impairment (P-12)
    • Gifted Certificate  (P-12)
  •  Applicants must score a minimum of 66% correct on the Placement Test.
  • Applicants must have at least two years of successful teaching experience

When:  One cohort will begin in the fall of 2010.  Classes will typically be held on Monday evenings.  There will be fifteen sessions of the first course, Pedagogy in Mathematics/Understanding Numbers and Operations, sixty contact hours.  Meeting time for the sessions will be 4:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.  Proposed meeting dates for the first course will be September 20, 27, October 4, 12 (Tuesday), 18, 25, November 8, 15, 22, 29, December 6, 13, January 3, 10, 17.  Meeting dates for other courses will be announced at a later time.  Additional cohorts will also be scheduled at a later date and as needed.

Where:   Classes will be held at the Liberty County Board of Education in Hinesville, Georgia. 

Costs:  Tuition cost per course per person for 2010-2011 is $300 payable to FDRESA prior to the beginning of each of the four courses.  FDRESA accepts payments from the candidates’ school districts.  Payments from individuals will not be accepted.

Application Process and Three Information Sessions: 

  • An information session for interested candidates will be held August 31 at the Appling County High School Fine Arts Complex, 482 Blackshear Highway in Baxley, 4 p.m.-6 p.m.  Alternate sessions will be held on September 1 at the District Learning Center (Perry Building), 2301 Stonewall Street, in Brunswick, 4 p.m.-6 p.m., and September 2 at FDRESA, 201 West Lee Street in Brooklet, 4 p.m.-6 p.m.  At each of the three sessions, the Placement Test will be administered to interested candidates.  The Placement Assessment contains twelve items on Numbers and Operations.  Candidates must get at least eight items correct to move forward in the application process.  Register by August 23 to attend one of the information sessions.
  • Those candidates who pass the Placement Assessment may submit the Metro RESA K-5 Mathematics Endorsement applications with signatures and all required documents to Sandi Fowler at FDRESA, 201 West Lee Street, Brooklet, Ga., 30415.  All documents and signatures must be submitted in order for an application to be considered complete. 
  • Candidates will be notified of their admission statuses.  Each class will be limited to 25 participants, to be determined by the first 25 candidates who submitted complete applications to FDRESA and who are admitted to the program.  Fewer than 18 participants in a course may result in the cancellation of the course.
