Part three in the Making the Standards of Mathematical Practice Visible series, classroom teachers will address the question, “What should students be doing in a mathematics classroom during the 2019-2020 school year?” First District RESA mathematics consultants believe that improving student achievement begins with equipping administrators, instructional coaches and teachers with the necessary tools to improve student achievement for all learners.

“The Standards for Mathematical Practice describe varieties of expertise that mathematics educators at all levels should seek to develop in their students.  These practices rest on important processes and proficiencies with longstanding importance in mathematics education.”      GaDOE Grade Level Overviews

John Hattie’s Visible Learning research synthesized findings from 1,500 meta-analyses of 90,000 studies involving 300 million students, into what works best in education.  In this session, teachers will learn how to implement the Standards for Mathematical Practice using strategies based on Hattie’s effect size research found in Visible Learning for Mathematics. Participants will leave with the tools needed to implement effective mathematics instruction in any grade.  

The completion of the series by all parties should help schools develop common understandings and expectations for the mathematics program.  However, this is not a requirement to participate.

The target audience is mathematics teachers K-12.
