Course 1: Foundations of Language Acquisition and Cultural Contexts

This course introduces theories and research in second language acquisition, English language development, and the cultural and social contexts that influence language learning. Candidates explore how educator identity, sociopolitical factors, and cultural diversity impact English learners’ academic and language development.

Course 2: ESOL Instructional Planning, Methods, and Technology

This course focuses on designing and delivering evidence-based, standards-aligned instruction for English learners. Candidates develop skills in lesson planning, differentiated instruction, collaborative strategies, and effective integration of digital tools to support language and content learning across disciplines.

Course 3: Assessment, Advocacy, and Professional Practice in ESOL

This course prepares candidates to apply assessment principles and data-driven decision-making in ESOL contexts. Candidates will learn to analyze assessment data, implement accommodations, advocate for English learners, and engage in reflective practice and professional development to enhance their effectiveness as ESOL educators.
